The
professional development day that the above picture captures was an Ontario
College of Teacher development day (OCT).
The topics highlighted were how to ensure we properly apply for our
teaching license upon graduating Brock, as well as various teacher protocols
and teacher guidelines to ensure we are following as professionals in our
placements. I thoroughly enjoyed this
presentation and thought of it to be very beneficial and useful for all
pre-service teacher candidates. For instructional purposes, I would keep in
mind the Ethical Standards of Practice that the presenters discussed. These
Standards of Practice are crucial to education in Ontario, and are the
characteristics that all teachers should embody: Trust, Respect, Integrity, and
Care. I will always ensure that my teaching practice revolves around these
characteristics and that all decisions I make abide by the Standards of
Practice. This was a mandatory professional development day, however; should I have
gotten the option to attend or not, I would have still attended because the
presenters gave pertinent information about the next steps in my teaching
career, such as how to apply for my teaching license, when due dates are, fees
that exist, etc. I feel as a future professional, it is always important to be
up to date with information, and to constantly be educating yourself and
furthering your knowledge with things that involve you as a professional, especially
as a teacher! Overall, I had a wonderful day, gained an abundance of knowledge
and further prepared myself for the next step in my journey towards being a
teaching professional.
